Adaptation of the Resolution on International Artificial Intelligence Day

On August 31, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution upon the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan, declaring that starting in 2027, August 31 will be celebrated as International Day for Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
The adoption of this resolution is a continuation of the consistent policy of the Republic of Tajikistan and the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, toward the development of artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and their responsible use.
The selection of August 31 holds historical significance, as it was on this exact date in 1955 that the Dartmouth University Artificial Intelligence research project proposal was submitted.
The proclamation of this International Day creates a favorable framework for strengthening global cooperation, exchanging experience, and promoting the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence.
This initiative represents a significant contribution by the Republic of Tajikistan to shaping the international agenda on artificial intelligence, reflecting the country’s active standing in leveraging new technologies for sustainable development and human well-being.
